Why did Jesus spit?

Many People usually ask themselves of: why did Jesus spit on the ground to heal the blind from his birth with mud ?
That´s simple! This blind man had come with manufactured defect. Crazy ? So I´m gonna explain you why:

In Genesis 2:7 it is written: “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man of the dust became a living soul.”

There is a play on words in Hebrew between adam (“man”) and adama (“ground”). Being: literally, “soul.” Adam means “from the dust; from the ground” while Adama means “ground; dust”.

Let´s take a look at the literal meaning in this verse according to the New American Standard Bible (The hebrew words of the original written is added to help us understanding it):

Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord (yeh-ho-vaw’; the self-Existent or Eternal) God (‘elohiym ; el-o-heem’, exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), (very) great, judges, mighty) formed yatsar  (yaw-tsar’; to mould into a form; especially as a potter; fashion, form, frame) man ‘adam  (aw-dawm’; a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, of low degree), of the dust `aphar  (aw-fawr’; as powdered or gray; hence, clay, earth, mud — ashes, dust, earth, ground, morter, powder, rubbish) of (min; above, after, among, at, etc) the ground ‘adamah  (ad-aw-maw’; soil ,from its general redness) — country, earth, ground, etc) and breathed naphach  (naw-fakh’ to puff, in various applications; literally – to inflate, blow hard, scatter; figuratively, to disesteem) into his nostrils ‘aph  (af; the nose or nostril; hence, the face, and occasionally a person; also: from the rapid breathing in passion) the breath nshamah  (nesh-aw-maw’)
a puff, angry or vital breath, divine inspiration, intellect. or (concretely) — blast, (that) breath(-eth), inspiration, soul, spirit. of life chay  (khah’-ee) age, alive, appetite, company, congregation, life(-time), live(-ly), living (creature, thing), maintenance, + merry, multitude, + (be) old, quick, raw, running, springing, troop. and man (aw-dawm’; the same note as above), of the dust (aw-fawr’; the same note as above) became a living chay  (khah’-ee; the same note as of life) soul nephesh  (neh’-fesh) a breathing creature, i.e. animal of (abstractly) vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or mental).

So at this point (If you could keep reading this study till here) I can testify along with you that man was literally formed by GOD using the dust of the ground. We all came from the dust and no doubts about it now.

Now before you decide to leave this page and check some other stuff in the internet, let´s take a look in
John 9:1-12 using the King James Version:

“1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. 8The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?9Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.10Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?11He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.12Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.”

the bible tells us that jesus anointed that man with mud. Have you ever been anoited with mud? Nowadays, we use perfumed oil to anoit people. But Jesus liked to use mud. And sometimes His spit (Mark 7:33)

The greek word for spit here is Eptusen.Eptusen means mouth saliva, spit. There was a belief held in Jesus Time that saliva had curative powers. But its use was later banned in Jewish circles due to its use in the magical arts. Some jewish group believed it had curative powers while others jewish group didn´t. Jesus here is defying Jewish sensibilities and healing independently of the prevailing notions of ritual cleanliness. Jesus performed this miracle on a Sabbath (Saturday). This too may be a further intended affront to Jewish religious sensibilities as well.

By declaring that “Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him” (John 9:3), Jesus meant that this man was born predestinated to be set as one of that displays GOD´S glory. In other words he was set to be a Godly Trophy Case.

John 9:4 says “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work”

Nearby Siloam, The GOD sent was spreading his divine mission by delivering a blind from his birth revealing Himself to him as the truly Messiah.. Siloam is a hebrew word. It means Sent. The GOD sent was performing a mysterious miracle nearby the Sent place. At the feast of the tabernacles Siloam had a very special meaning: By using golden vessels the water was drawn from the well in the last day of the feast and transported into the golden vessels till the temple. When the man from his birth was told by Jesus that he should go to Siloam to clean his dirty eyes with clay, Jesus was proclaiming Himself as the Truly GOD sent to satisfy the human thirsty soul because He was the SENT.

That´s why in John 7:37-38 It describes that “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” Jesus himself was Siloam ! Siloam means “sent”. The Sent source. Salvation water. Purification.

The same Messianic prophet and dreamer describe these waters like: 2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:2,3)

Jesus, the Wells of salvation, spat on the groud to heal the blind from his birth with mud because He knew God formed man of the dust of the ground. Water with dust is turned into mud anytime you do it. The clay was formed. Man was made by the dust. The very intention of Jesus here was letting men know that we must understand of where we came from. And this man was meant to be made with manufactured defect because since his birth he could not see. Jesus spitting on the dust and turning it into clay was his way to fix it up using the original pieces of his product and let this man know that HE can add to our lives when we don´t have any fault to be the way we are. We are the dust. HE is the living water. Dust with Water? Holy Clay! When you vizualize yourself as being a 0 never forget HE is the number 1. And 1 + 0 = 10 ! Jesus is the real answer for our moments of hardship. HE is the solution for our emptyness. Nothing can hold Him to bless us anytime He wants to. Blessed be the name of The One who has being SENT!
